Little Things Are Important

The secret to life lies in little things in our daily lives. It’s these things that make us whole. The spark to keep going in this world of race arises from these small moments that we share with each other consciously or unconsciously.

I was reluctant to get it clicked. Then a friend of mine said, ‘ you better go there and just sit. Do not question me.’ I did this and then I ended up smiling.

1/ Remember the smile which you get when you receive the text message from your boyfriend/girlfriend — ‘ Hey, How have you been?’. This reminds you that someone out there cares for you.

2/ It’s 3 AM in the night, you call your friend just to rant. The friend picks up the call and says, ‘ Hey, Are you okay?’. You say, ‘Yes, I’m. Just feel like talking to you.’ The friend says, ‘ Okay, you stupid. Give me a minute….. okay, tell me.’ Then the conversation continues till early morning. If not for them, then what we are doing in our lives.

3/ You receive the milk packets earlier in the day. Sometimes bhaiya stays a second longer and says, ‘ Good morning!’ with a bright smile. It changes the way I look at the day.

4/ Spend a little time over your cup of tea, a cup of water, a cup of coffee. Be in the moment. Let it ease you. Allow yourself to be in it.

5/ Step outside the house or regular path of your routine. Look at the corner of your garden. Look at that rose which is beautifully making our life more colorful. Look at the majestic sky and embrace the beauty of nature.

6/ We all listen to music on our respective favorite earphones. But what if I tell you, take out a moment to listen to the chirping of birds. Listen to nature around you. When you visit the river, sit down beside it, and listen to the sounds of water. Let the breeze of cold air pass through your heart. Listen to music of nature.

7/ How often have we started using the phrase I love you, I think more than ever before. Instead of this, try telling to your loved ones, how much you appreciate them, adore them and love them. Let the words of romance come out of your heart.

8/ ‘You have a strong heart’, my friend said. I don’t know how to explain the heaviness it carries every day without an inch of a complaint. Let go of that burden from your heart. You don’t need to crumble into your thoughts/emotions to be strong. Let it out and see how much better you will feel.

9/ In the middle of meetings, you are annoyed or frustrated. Feels like throwing away your laptop for all the good reasons in the world. All of sudden, mom walks in and asks you, ‘Hey, do you want a cup of tea/coffee?’. You smile and nod affirmatively. You are back to work in a calm state. These nudges are the most underrated thing in our lives.

10/ The feeling of abundance comes from within than externally. Look around and see, how much you have right at this very moment. Pat on your back and appreciate your consistent efforts throughout so many years. Come out of hustle culture sometimes. ‘We have got both dark and light inside, what matters is the part we choose to act on’.

11/ When you are back to your house after a long vacation from a place/home. You visit the nearby tapri for relief. The tapri folk asks you, ‘I’m seeing you after a very long time. Let me make you ‘kadak’ chai’.

12/ ‘ Khana khaya?’. You respond, ‘Nhi khaya’. She said, ‘Kha lo phir’. You get up from your study/work table and grab some food from the kitchen. Love comes more simplistically and we don’t pay attention to it.

13/ If you haven’t heard this and then this is for you, ‘ You are trying. Kaafi hai. Pahouch jaoge’. Days are not linear in nature. It comes with complexity and that’s fine. If you are just moving along with it or even at times you are still, it’s okay.

14/ You aren’t as busy as you think you are. You can turn off your mind from the work for some moments. Sit with your grandparents and be with them. They aren’t going to be around you forever. Work can be a second priority at times and it’s okay. Take time off to spend with your loved ones.

15/ Nobody said I love you by saying it explicitly. It has always expressed in the small acts that we do for each other. For example : I will come to your place. Let me wait for you. Let’s watch it together. I’m here for you always. Did you have dinner. I missed you. Whats your ETA. Come back soon. Call me anytime. We will do it together. Being around you when you need them the most. Make you smile when you are sad. Everyone has different vocabulary of love, and observe more to understand this.

There are so many things to be shared with all of you and this was quite random. I wanted to tell each one of you to enjoy life a bit more today than before. Life is a gift that we all have received. Life isn’t just about achieving dreams or goals, look beyond that at times. Life is what you make out of it from your soul.

Do you know why birds sing just before dawn? Scientists believe it’s to tell their mates that they made it through the night, as a way of saying, “I’m still here”. Maybe that’s why we sing, too, why we create art — as a way of saying, “I made it. I’m still here” — Jeff Goins
