Tim Minchin is an Australian comedian, actor, writer, musician, and songwriter. He is at at the University of Western Australis and will be sharing the nine lessons with the graduates. He says clearly he isn’t here to give the motivation speech, but since last few years words he says echo with people out there so it might reach out to them as well. Interestingly ,he gives a disclaimer that we will forget it by the end of the week. In my expreince, this is true most of the time with all the speeches that has come way untill now, including this. So I decided to write about this to memorise it and also impart the learnings on you.

  1. It’s not necessary to have a dream : If you have one, go for it and channelise all your energy to achieve it. Tim is a big advocate for the passion, work towards the short goals and give your best. One might never know what ignites the passion, so keep the eyes and heart open. If you focus too far then you won’t be able to focus on shiny thing in the corner of your eye.
  2. Don’t Seek Happiness : If you think about it too much, it goes away. Doesn’t it? Keep busy and aim to make someone else happy.
  3. Remember that you are lucky no matter where you come from. The light shine in all of you and all you need to do is just look into it. Remember to be empathetic enough, to not to take the credit of your all success or blame others for their failures. It will make you humble and compassionate.
  4. Excersie is the key to every speech. Play a yoga, go for dance, do zumba or do whatever it takes to pump up your body. The long luxrious life will make it tough for you to keep going. Don’t worry, exercise and depression have inverse correlation. So keep the body moving!
  5. Be hard on your opinions. Make sure, it should constantly and thoroughly examined. Don’t be like assholes who do not have any spine to lay at. Be intellectually rigrouous. Identify your biases, prejudices and privileges. ( you don’t have to be unscientific person to make the beautiful art)
  6. Be Teacher. PLEASE! Share your ideas and don’t take education for granted. Hit the school when you are in your 20’s. Rejoice in what you learn and then spray it to the every corner you witness.
  7. Define yourself by what you love. We have tendency to define ourselves in the opposition of the stuff and not what we truly desire.Be passionate about things you love and bring the passion to the table.Be pro stuff and not just anti stuff.
  8. Respect people who have less power than you. People won’t care how much power you hold in your pocket but they will judge you on how you treat the least powerful person in the room.
  9. Don’t rush. Not saying to sit around and smoke. But learn to enjoy the moment and try not to push the panic button always.

In the long run we all are going to die. Life will have it’s own journey. Sometime it’s going give a big barrier, a happy day, a boring road or an adventure mountain to climb on. The only sensible thing to do with empty existence is to fill it with your expereince. Get out of your comfort shoes and make your heart filled with plethora of memories and experiences.

Whenever I hit the low of my life, revisiting this ted talk allows me to breathe. It help me to understand that sheer joy of life isn’t in big things but in the moments of small things on day to day basis. This is the content which allows many consumers to relate with it and bring them to the basic needs of the life which eventually make the life big.
